Background

Harmony was purchased new in 1987 from "The Foredeck", known today as Catalina Direct, back when the Foredeck was the local Sacramento area Catalina dealership.  Lovingly cared for and trailer-sailed extensively, the boat was never in the water more than a week from 1987-1998. VC17m bottom paint was first applied in 1999 as Harmony began spending six months out of the year in the fresh water of the Columbia River (VC17m was reapplied every spring).

The boat sailed in California, Nevada, Idaho, Oregon, Washington, and British Columbia, Canada. A proven design that allowed its owners to enjoy frequent trips to San Francisco Bay and whale watching on Monterey Bay. It plied the waters of Lake Tahoe (even trailering from Idaho to compete in the 1997 Catalina 22 National Regatta) and enjoyed the backwaters of the California Delta. From the lakes and reservoirs of southern Idaho to Detroit Lake in Oregon, trailer sailing was the mainstay of Harmony's early career. Since coming to Washington in 1997, Harmony cruised the Columbia River and trailering north to cruise amongst the San Juan and Canadian Gulf Islands. Perfect for day sails and weekend overnight cruises, the boat was also taken on several extended cruises from 7-10 days.

Why did we sell the boat? While the skipper was happy to continue cruising and racing Harmony, the first mate wanted to move up to a larger boat.

Builder's Description

With over 13,000 Catalina 22's now sailing, we listened to a lot of owners and did extensive research before redesigning the most successful 22 footer ever built.  The new Catalina 22 is based on the original proven hull and sail design; which allows all Catalina 22's to enjoy the large and active one design association.

The deck incorporates crisp modern styling and a large family sized cockpit with comfortable angled seat backs, deep coamings, and a molded-in fuel locker.  All halyards are lead aft to the cockpit for secure sail handling.  The foredeck has a locker for the anchor and rode.  The stanchions are outboard and the non-skid has been improved for easier movement around the deck.

Accommodations

The boat has a well-organized use of interior space sufficient to sleep 5 in two doubles and one single. Her athwartships galley is handy, yet allows the cook to work without impeding cabin access. The settee provides seating for four and converts to a double berth. Forward is the Porta-Potti which can be covered by a cushion to convert the v-berth into a double. Harmony has beige vinyl cabin cushions which have held up exceptionally well compared to the fabric cushions on many other Catalina 22's. Interior materials are combinations of teak, laminates, and a molded fiberglass liner. A tinted Plexiglas forward deck hatch provides natural light and ventilation. The cabin sole is carpeted with an edged removable carpet. Adjustable curtains cover all windows, and a curtain allows the head and forepeak to be enclosed for additional privacy. Plenty of storage is built in under the berths in the boat's molded fiberglass lined compartments. Additional storage for larger items is provided under the cockpit. The cabin top is fitted with "pop-top" that provides more headroom when docked or anchored, and a snap-on cover provides privacy and protection from the elements. Several upgrades have been added like hanging nets (3) and table bracket locks (2).
