Batteries - New House

The batteries installed at the time we purchased our Safari motorhome were:

  • Chassis, Qty 2, Group 31, Les Schwab Commercial, 950 CCA, Date December 2013
  • House, Qty 4, Group 27, Les Schwab RV Deep Cycle, 675 CCA, Date September 2009
Batteries when motorhome was purchased.
They didn't appear to have been maintained properly.  All the cells in all the batteries needed water.  Four of the cells in the house bank had exposed plates (not good).

The chassis batteries looked and testing good, but the house batteries were struggling, so I decided to replace them and upgrade at the same time by switching to Optima Bluetop AGM D31M, 1125 MCA, 900 CCA, 75 AH.

After shopping around, I found the best price was online, and the batteries came with free shipping.  FREE SHIPPING!  Imagine the margin they must be making if they can ship that much weight around and not charge the buyer.  Amazing!

Cleaned up chassis batteries and new house batteries.
Because of the unique shape of the Optima batteries, I used 2x2 composite lumber to lock the batteries into the tray designed for rectangular batteries.
