Keeping things clean helps you spot problems early. When I took delivery of my Capri 22, I pulled everything out of it so I could clean the bilges, all of the compartments, and the surfaces. The bilge above the keel was the dirtiest, dry, but dirty.

Armed with a stainless steel scrub brush and a sprayer of Krud Kutter, I worked on making everything look new.

The before and after photos of the boat are very striking. I was also able to verify that the rust on the stainless steel keel bolts was just surface rust and not indicators of a bigger problem.

My bilge has remained dry and clean, so I'm not sure how the bilge got so dirty since the boat has no thru-hull fittings to worry about.
