Galley - Under Sink Cabinet

Our 1996 Safari Sahara 3530 came with its share of cosmetic issues I noted during the initial inspection prior to the purchase.

Carpet and Basket Restoration

Under the galley sinks.
I removed all the hardware for the sliding wire basket and decided that it was in good enough shape to warrant cleaning, followed by four coats of Krylon Fusion white paint for plastic.  As for the base of the cabinet, I unscrewed the carpeted panel and removed it from the cabinet.  Using the same carpet I used for the galley's Lazy Susan project, I re-carpeted the panel.

After repainting all the components of the wire slide out basket, I installed it on the newly re-carpeted panel.

The "After" scene.

Fixing the Smelly Drains

You might have noticed in the photo at the start of the article that the drain pipes are black.  We were getting awful smells from the drains.  My first attempt at a fix was to clog the p-trap and soak everything in bleach.  FAIL!  My second attempt involved removing all the black pipes and thoroughly cleaning them.  FAIL!  As this point I figure the odor had permeated the pipes, a problem I'm familiar with in marine sanitation systems on boats.  Fortunately all the drain pipes are readily available at any hardware store.  Will the new parts installed our drains have been odor free.

Galley waste can in place.
While only a couple of small restoration projects, they've contributed greatly to refreshing our coach.
