Window Coverings

Envisioned as a one-design racer and daysailer, the Capri 22 also makes a nice cruiser, as I have found.  One of the features lacking on my boat were blinds to provide the cabin some privacy.  While taping or Velcro something up would have worked, I want a more lasting solution that was removable when not in use.  I also wanted to avoid any new holes in the cabin.

I designed Sunbrella covers held in place with snaps and bungee cord.  I began with a template of the windows so I could make sure I had good coverage.

The top of the cover is held in place with snaps backed with 3M VHB (very high bond) tape.

The bottom of the cover also uses snaps, but the snaps accept an adapter that has a loop of bungee cord.  The bungee cord stretches the window cover by pulling it to a hook mounted under the deck with 3M Command Strips.

Adapter attached to snap.

Adapter bungee attached to 3M Command Strip hook.

The finished product has worked out great.  They are easy to install, and when not in use, I roll them and use one of the zipped pockets in the vee-berth for storage.
