From the Farmers Market to Your Plate

Anacortes Farmers Market.
Locally sourced is part of the fun of visiting a Farmers Market.  Anacortes holds theirs on the grounds of a former train station.

Local art on display and for sale.
Interesting to see while on the way to the market were sculptures crafted from found and weathered wood.  The imagination and creativeness of the artist is incredible.

More local art on display and for sale.
Passing the W.T. Preston Snagboat museum on the way to the market.
The former Anacortes train station serves as a community center today.  If you visit during the week, the grounds are quiet, but show up between 9 am and 2 pm, and it is quite the happening place.

A great vibe at the market.

Live music is part of the Farmers Market.
Diners listening to the music.

Herb Garden

Living with a chef has its perks aside from the awesome food.  I love watching Laura at Farmers Markets.  She chats with the vendors, handles the produce, and exposes me to a side of the experience I would totally miss without her.  I see colorful fruits and vegetables, and how they taste individually.  Laura sees a palette from which she can create something new.

On this day we find herbs.  On the way back to the motorhome we stop and pick up a container and some potting mix.

Laura Mack with one of her finds.
Laura has an extensive herb garden at home that she routinely pulls from, but starting one in a container while we live in the motorhome for a couple of weeks was a first for us.

The happy gardener.

The container gets lots of morning and midday sun.

Locally Source Dinner

Laura grills vegetables from the Farmers Market.
My mouth was watering just watching her cook.
They tasted as good as they look.
Salmon.
The final creation.

The day started with the sculpture art of found things, and it ended with the culinary art of found things.  Laura's efforts were as tasty as they were beautiful.
