Guemes Channel Trail - Anacortes

Two days after our first visit to Ship Harbor, we were back to try out the biking and walking trail that heads towards downtown.  As it turned out, the trail would lead to a thirty-year-old honeymoon memory.

The city's goal is to eventually connect the Guemes Channel Trail with the Tommy Thompson Trail.

Thirty years ago, while on honeymoon, Dale shot this picture of the La Merced wooden hulled schooner that is part of the seawall at Lovric's Sea-Craft Shipyard.  The La Merced was built in Benicia, CA in 1917, just across the water from Martinez Marina where I spent so many of my early Sea Scout years.

Filled with sand and slowly succumbing to the elements, the La Merced still survives today.
