The Banana Belt Shared with Family

Lying in the rain shadow of the Olympic mountains, Fidalgo Island, and Anacortes, in particular, is known locally for being in the "Banana Belt".  Having shared pictures of the area with family and friends for years, it was a treat to have Laura's sister Debbie and her family come up and visit for part of a week.

Bowman Bay

Debbie, her husband Sid, and their daughter Emma followed us over to Bowman Bay so that Emma and Sid could try their hands at kayaking after Dale got off work.  We set up a canopy on the beach for shade, an enjoyed the short-sleeve weather as the Puget Sound gently lapped at the shoreline.

Happy hands, that's how great the day was

Seafarer's Memorial Park Concert

A couple of days later came the opportunity to share an outdoor concert with our guests, and to let Laura and Emma do some kayaking around Seafarer's Memorial Park and Cap Sante Marina.

Deception Pass State Park - Cranberry Lake

Deception Pass State Park spans both Fidalgo Island to the north and Whidbey Island to the south.  After sharing Bowman Bay with Debbie an family on Wednesday, we headed to Cranberry Lake on Saturday.  The locals must have liked the name "Cranberry" since this was the second lake so named within seven miles of each other.

A mere eighty yards separates the lake from the sound.

It had been a wonderful visit with Debbie, Emma, and Sid sharing the sites and experiences of a region we love so much.
