Friday was scheduled as the first day of the Portland Yacht Club's rendezvous at Port Ludlow. Each boat that arrived had its own story of traveling down the Columbia River, up the Washington coast, through the Strait of Juan de Fuca, and ending in Port Ludlow. Many of the boats had already been up north for a number of weeks.

The overcast turned to sunny skies as the day progressed. My two hours of work unexpectedly turned into nine, but it didn't affect Bob who was also working online as he sought to resolve issues the recent USA tariffs were having on his business. As for the girls, they enjoyed a lazy day in port as PYC boats started to arrive in the afternoon.

Laura and I started out on wooden boats in Sea Scouts and Mariners, because back in the 70's and 80's most of the vessels in scouting were ex-military built in the 40's and 50's. Years spent maintaining wooden boats left a soft spot in my heart for these vessels. Prior to the rendezvous, we had been following on Facebook the adventures of the Sharon and Jim Sinclair from PYC who had just taken delivery of a wooden 1968 Grand Banks trawler.

PYC held a potluck appetizer share onshore under a large white event tent. As is typical, the variety was wonderful and it served as a substitute for dinner. PYC 2018 Commodore Frank Bocarde welcomed the rendezvous attendees, and in turn, the attendees thanked Frank for his efforts in organizing the rendezvous.

After the potluck, several PYC members moved the party over to the Fireside restaurant at the Port Ludlow Inn overlooking the marina.
