Two Farmer's Markets and a Corsage

Mount Vernon Farmer's Market
One benefit of being away from home in our Safari motorhome is that we do a better job of getting out on the weekends to explore new things and soak in the sunshine.  Back home it's easy to fall into a rut that we allowed to form long ago in our road.  It's not that we don't get out, it just why do we bike, walk, and kayak less, I mean a whole lot less.

On this Saturday we found ourselves taking in the vibe of the Mount Vernon Farmer's Market, situated on the banks of the Skagit River.  Located fourteen miles from our campsite at Fidalgo Bay RV Resort, Mount Veron straddles I-5 at exit 226 when heading north.

The site of the Farmer's Market sits on the grounds of the expanded Skagit River Walk.
In the 1890's, more than a dozen sternwheelers were working on the Skagit River.

We've all seen skateboard deterrent devices installed on concrete to protect the edges from the damage.  Most I've seen are very modern looking, so these in Mount Vernon stood out for their uniqueness.

Laura can't pass up a chance to chat with bakers.
We didn't know what to expect in Mount Vernon.  We had visited before, walked the downtown, had lunch at the Calico Cupboard, and even shopped at the Skagit Valley Food Co-Op, but we had never been to the Farmer's Market.  One of the food stalls that stood out was Swedish Pancakes.

I love shooting the colors at Farmer's Markets.  Even on the grayish-brown hazy day due to forest fire smoke, that muted the colors in many of the photos, the brilliance of the produce shown through.

August is berry season in Skagit County.
Locally grown peppers.  Impressive for the Pacific Northwest.
While not a fan of eggplant, I do like the way they look.

Schuh Farms

Between Mount Vernon and Anacortes is Schuh Farms.  A family-owned working farm, they feature produce, pies, ice cream, gifts, and farm animals.

Anacortes Farmer's Market

We managed to get back to Anacortes to catch the tail end of their Farmer's Market.  On this visit, Laura decided to try the crepes.

Look, Dale Bought be a Corsage

One of our purchases in Mount Vernon was a lettuce we had never seen.  We have seen Butter, Boston, and Bibb lettuce, but we had never seen one this dark green.

Laura's favorite color is green.
It had been an awesome morning.  Mount Vernon was fun, Anacortes tasty, and Schuh Farms a delight.
